Olympic Gold Medalist Kelly Pannek Talks With the Varsity Team

Olympic gold medalist Kelly Pannek joined the varsity team on Wednesday to talk about her 2018 Olympic experience, high school sports, being a good teammate, and whatever else she [and Cave] wanted to.

Kelly is from Plymouth, MN where she attended Benilde-St. Margaret’s School. Coach Cave taught and coached Kelly. Kelly was Ms. Soccer her senior year and runner up for Ms. Hockey that same year. Kelly went on to play hockey at the University of Minnesota where she was part of 2 national championship teams. Last year Kelly played on the US Olympic Women’s Hockey Team that won the gold medal in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Part of Kelly’s message included finding what you love and do it, the most important part of being a good teammate, and sharing. In fact, Kelly shared her gold medal with us to hold and take selfies with.

So great that the girls got to have time with this smart, humble, confident, articulate, and insightful young lady!

[Cave’s favorite part? When Kelly explained that the gold medal is actually gold plating wrapped around silver. When asked what is the silver medal was made of, Kelly’s response was, ‘I don’t know, I don’t have a silver medal..’]
